Enjoy healthy and fun activities along State Street, including a mobile skate park, yoga classes, an interactive playground and more. Below is a list of activities for all ages and interests.


Imagination Playground (ages 3+)

Made of biodegradable, interactive elements—including blocks, crates, carts, sand and water—this 500-square-foot movable playground encourages creative and physical play.

Kidz Zone (ages 3+)

Bring your children and participate in a series of pedestrian and bicycle safety games and activities. Kids will learn the rules of the road so they can stay safe on bikes or trikes or while playing in any neighborhood.

Scavenger Hunt (all ages)

Discover the “hidden gems” of State Street! Learn about the Loop’s history and architecture, as well as the favorite spots of insiders who live, work and play in the area. Scavenger Hunt volunteers will be on hand to assist and will award a range of prizes for lucky winners.

Dunking Booth (ages 14+)*

Settle the score the old-fashioned way: Send someone splashing into 500 gallons of water. Practice your pitching beforehand, and be sure to invite your best friends…and worst enemies.

Mobile Skate Park presented by Illinois Center for Broadcasting (beginners all ages; intermediate 15+)

Watch pro and experienced skaters or take a lesson from Character Skateboards and the Chicago Youth Skateboarding Project. Then try skating yourself, under the shadow of some of the Loop’s historic buildings, including the Harold Washington Library.

Breakdancing Demo & Instruction (all ages)

Chicago’s most acclaimed break-dancing crew, Brickheadz, will showcase some spinning, hopping, and sliding moves. They’ll also give lessons and guidance to aspiring B-boys and B-girls. Dance doesn’t get better than this!

Yoga (all ages)

CorePower instructors will be on hand to lead you through some poses and breathing exercises. Stand like a tree, reach for the sun and feel the work and school stress melt away.

Revolving Relay Races (all ages)

Students from more than 20 Loop colleges and universities compete alongside Open Streets revelers! Just like the company picnic or family reunion but much cooler—including 3-legged races, hula hoop competitions, sack races and bring-your-own-bike slow races (to see who can ride the slowest). Show up anytime to participate.

Martial Arts (all ages)

Learn Capoeira with the International Capoeira Angola Foundation. ICAF is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the Afro-brazilian art of Capoeira, which combines dance, acrobatics and martial arts. Come and see why it’s become such a popular means of creative self-expression and physical fitness.

 Four Square (all ages)

Relearn—or teach your kids—this playground favorite. Players bounce a ball between squares in a series of quick rounds. Eliminated players leave the court, the remaining players move up to the next highest square.

Roller Disco (all ages)

We’ve got the disco ball and the music that will have you “stayin’ alive” just like the Bee Gees would want you to. Bring your own roller skates (or rent a pair) and show us your funky dance moves. Costumes encouraged.

Chill Zones (all ages)

Grab a spot on one of our ‘pop-up lawns’ in the middle of State Street. Read a book, watch the action or take a nap without the everyday traffic and noise.

Walk With Walgreens (all ages)

Register to take a ‘Walk with Walgreens’ and earn rewards for your everyday activity. Set a goal, then log your daily steps. In no time, you’ll begin racking up rewards and coupons from Walgreens as well as its partner businesses.

Get Active Zone (all ages)

Often found in nightclubs, these fast, fun classes from Chicago Fitness Parties combine dance and exercise moves everyone can enjoy. Zumba is propelled by Latin and international beats; WERQ classes by rock, pop and hip hop. Try one or both 30 minute classes.
